About our foundation

Our Mission

Our mission is to Educate, Equip, Engage and Empower 4 Economic Mobility. I'm Pastor Ed Spencer. Thank you for opening this email. Ours is not a program, but a movement. There is much to do, much to learn... and many neighbors to reach. We are Champions, Allies and Neighbors - building bridges across the divides that separate us.

Our first milestone: recruit 1,000 people, and 10 coalition partners

A Coalition Partner is a Church that agrees to ally with us annually. These churches are critical to our efforts because they provide a venue where we can conduct our education and equipping sessions. Pastors and congregations have access to the families and neighbors we want to reach.

Our Core Workshops

1BRIDGES OUT OF POVERTY - THE INTRODUCTION
A 1-hour overview of E4-12 and our core education platform. Most of our members have joined us as a result of attending this presentation. Please be alert for these opportunities; and let us know about others who may want to know more about E4-12.
2BRIDGES OUT OF POVERTY - TECHNIQUES & TACTICS
An in-depth education & equipping workshop. In a safe learning environment, a series of "AHA! moments" unfold. Poverty is personal as well as systemic. The more we know, the more we understand; and the more we understand - the more we know what to do.
3WHAT EVERY CHURCH MEMBER SHOULD KNOW ABOUT PEOPLE
In-depth workshop that prepares and "equips the saints for works of service...".
4GETTING AHEAD IN A JUST GETTIN' BY WORLD
This is an 18-week project during which 12 Neighbors are equipped to build knowledge, soft skills, and social capital - bridges out of poverty. We can also equip Allies to assist these Neighbors. In upcoming newsletters, you will read more about this project: how it begins, evolves and produces real results.
5GETTING AHEAD FACILITATOR TRAINING
The Getting Ahead project requires well-prepared facilitators. The training process culminates in certification as a Getting Ahead facilitator.
6GETTING AHEAD WHILE GETTING OUT
The Getting Ahead project for incarcerated individuals is now in place in four state penitentiary systems; we are working to bring it here. Graduates are successfully re-integrating into their families and communities, intentionally avoiding many of the pitfalls that result in recidivism.
7WORKPLACE STABILITY - Creating Conditions That Lead to Retention, Productivity, and Engagement in Entry-Level Workers
A relationship driven on-boarding process, and knowledgeable front line supervisors and managers, saves thousands of dollars by enhancing retention rates. Greater profitability results from enhanced employee loyalty and productivity. Employees build stability and have greater access to resources.

We Track Educational Development

You will emerge from a Bridges Out of Poverty - Techniques and Tactics workshop equipped to be either a Champion or an Ally. There is no obligation for deeper engagement, but should you decide to do so, we would like to recognize your effort and achievement. Champions and Allies are equipped to make a difference, more often, and more quickly.

A Rising Tide Floats All Boats

What if all our neighbors understood Charlotte CAN disrupt poverty by understanding and engaging with each other as Champions, Allies, and Neighbors? We would understand with compassion, know what to do, engage with the solution, and empower individuals, institutions and communities to stabilize and grow resources for all.
